About Us.
Driven by an interest in the welfare of senior citizens, the Senior Citizens’ Service Association of Saskatoon (SCSAS) was incorporated in 1953 and is a charitable non-profit association servicing Saskatoon and vicinity.
We are better known as the “Cosmo Seniors” since we function out of the Cosmopolitan Seniors Centre located just ½ block off of Broadway Ave in the Nutana neighbourhood.
HISTORY OF OWNERSHIP
In 1953:
The Centre was originally funded and operated by the Cosmopolitan International Club of Saskatoon (CICS) but when when the CICS closed its doors, it offered the building to the City of Saskatoon on the condition that the SCSAS was granted a lease to the building.
In 2012:
The Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon (KCOS) approached the SCSAS for use of its facility in times when seniors’ events are not being held. This has enabled the seniors to continue to use the building but also allowed the Kinsmen to serve needs of our community.
In 2022:
A new agreement was reached in which Kinsmen would lease the Centre from the City of Saskatoon and the SCSAS would then sublease from Kinsmen. This allowed the SCSAS to focus on their efforts to supply space for seniors to enjoy activities without the need to conduct fund raising and other events outside of the time spent during the activities.
The SCSAS has exclusive use of the Hall Monday — Thursday from 9 am until 4 pm and on Fridays from 9 am to 1 pm.
We bring different perspectives to the table, but we’re united by an enthusiasm for purposeful work and service to seniors.
