Yoga

One hour yoga sessions are offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m.  The Monday class is a free flow class where you balance mind and body through gentle postures, and controlled breathing.  Wednesday and Friday sessions are Chair Yoga where the exercises and postures are suitable for anyone who wants to improve their health and well-being. The classes are great to improve mobility, strength, balance, circulation, respiration, digestion, and clarity of mind.   The Centre is very fortunate to have one of the best yoga instructors in Saskatoon leading the Monday and Wednesday classes.   The cost is $5.00 per yoga session.  After two sessions you need to become a member of the Association for a minimal cost for the year.   The members gather after the Wednesday session to socialize over coffee and the occasional treat.  Come check it out.  Your body will love you for it.   Bring your own yoga mat or use one of the mats supplied by the Association.  Other necessary yoga props are supplied by the Association.

Kaiser is a popular Canadian trick-taking card game for four players in two partnerships, using a 32-card deck, where players bid on tricks, name trump, and score points for tricks taken. In our Centre, people play 4 hands at each table and then add up their scores. The team that has the higher score moves to another table and play starts again. We play on Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 12:45 and finishing around 3:30 pm.  The cost is $3 per session with $1 going towards our pizza fund, 25 centes going to the Association and the rest of the money collected given out in prizes for the top three scores of the day. When we are finished playing, we socialize around refreshments and goodies. Tea, coffee, and all supplies are provided by the association. Occassionally we, as a group, go out for supper or have a pizza lunch before playing cards. All are welcome but it is recommended you know how to play prior to attending.

Mahjong

Mahjong is a popular Chinese tile-based game of skill, strategy, and luck, where 4 players draw and discard tiles to form sets (melds) and complete a specific hand pattern. Although there are many variations to this game, we use the American Standard version. We play on Tuesday afternoons from 12:45 until about 3:30 pm. The cost is 25 cents per session on a drop in basis. You may play for two sessions before you need to join our Association for a nominal yearly fee. Coffee and tea and tile sets are provided by the Association. We welcome all those interested in playing or learning to play this enjoyable social game!

Our instructors are trained by Forever in Motion which is an exercise programme provided by the Saskatchewan Health Authority to improve the health of older adults in the community. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 10 am and lasting 45 minutes followed by coffee and socializing. Each participant has a chair at their spot to use for some exercises; especially during balance exercises. Cost is $5 per session. Members use bands and hand-held weights (some are available at the Centre but you are welcome to bring your own). You can attend two sessions before being required to join our association for a nominal fee. No need to preregister - just drop in and join the fun!

Social Bridge is a bidding card game that uses the entire deck of cards and is played with 4 people at each table. In our Centre, people play 5 hands at each table and then add up their scores. The team that has the higher score moves to another table and play starts again. We complete 5 rounds of cards each afternoon. At the end of the fifth round, scores are totalled and prizes are given out to the top 4 players. We play on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons starting at 12:45 and finishing around 3:30 pm. We then have refreshments and goodies until 4 pm. The drop-in cost is $2 per person with 25 cents going to the Association and the rest towards the prizes. Coffee, tea, and supplies are provided by the Association. After two sessions you need to become a member of our Association for a nominal yearly fee. Bridge is a great way to keep your mind active and to socialize with other seniors in a friendly environment.
